We strive to provide an environment that fosters positive role models for our Indigenous students and offers opportunities to cultivate Indigenous-inspired leadership. Our organization is dedicated to creating a positive public image for Indigenous people and enhancing cultural sensitivity and awareness within the broader community. As Indigenous student leaders, we advocate for the needs and interests of our students attending Sault College. We actively facilitate cultural engagement opportunities and work closely with our Elders-in-Residence ensuring that traditional knowledge and practices are integrated into student life. We play a crucial role in promoting positive systemic change towards truth and reconciliation by ensuring that student voices are integral to all organizational activities. The Indigenous Students’ Union also fosters collaborative relationships with both internal College departments and external organizations to promote and engage in intercultural awareness sharing and cultural competency learning opportunities for the wider College community. Additionally, we support one another within the provincial system by collaborating with other Indigenous Students’ Unions in the area, strengthening our collective impact  and fostering a network of mutual support and advocacy.

Your college experience should extend beyond the classroom; we host a variety of cross-cultural, social, and educational events throughout the school year: movie nights, feasts, ceremonies, games nights, traditional craft workshops, and more! Students can get involved, learn new skills, or just have fun.

Enji Maawnjiding “Where We Gather” Indigenous Student Centre
“Enji” as some students affectionately call it…is a daily gathering place for the campus community. It is equipped with computer stations and media equipment, including a large screen for presentations or movie watching. Study-time or down-time, Enji Maawnjiding is a multi-purpose Centre like no other!

Enjiins (Little Enji)
Looking for a quiet place to study or complete course work? Stop by Enjiins, our dedicated study hall. Located in the Indigenous Studies department (room G1090) Enjiins is equipped with computers, large round tables for group work and is just down the hall from faculty and staff offices.

SACRED FIRE ARBOUR
Outside the Enji Maawnjiding Student Centre is our “Wiigwaasgamig” (Birch Bark House) Sacred Fire Arbour. You will see the fire burning during several events throughout the year such as during our annual pow-wow, seasonal gatherings, traditional teachings and other ceremonies.

INDIGENOUS STUDENTS’ UNION
The Indigenous Student Union (ISU) works with the Indigenous Studies Department and the Sault College Students’ Union (SCSU) to enhance student life on campus by promoting awareness of Indigenous/Metis/Inuit peoples and enhancing a healthy holistic lifestyle The ISU’s primary focus is to develop strong partnerships with other groups within Sault College and our communities. A great opportunity to help grow as community leaders, build teamwork skills and engage with fellow students.
