    Scope and Nature:
    Sault College Students’ Union (SCSU) is a student-led organization representing all full-time fee-paying students at Sault College. Our mission is to create an exceptional student experience through student-focused programs, services, and advocacy. Our vision is to empower our student community to succeed in a changing world. We strive to do this as an active member of the Sault College community, facilitating opportunities for student leadership, and creating strategic partnerships to improve the quality of life on campus. The President of Sault College Students’ Union (SCSU) works to engage, inform, and lobby for students on issues that affect post-secondary education, and the life of Sault College student.

    General Responsibilities
  • Acts as the Chief Executive Officer, serving as the official representative and spokesperson of SCSU.
  • Supervises the Indigenous Student’s Union President, SCSU Vice President Campus Connections, SCSU Vice President Student Life and the SCSU Executive Director, ensuring all day-to-day operations are in line with the best interests of all Sault College students (the membership of SCSU).
  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all advocacy initiatives of SCSU and assists with business planning.
  • Consults with the SCSU Executives and BoD to provide feedback and recommendations for the organization’s budget.
  • Supports and promotes all SCSU sanctioned events, activities, and services.
  • Consults with the Executive Director on all legal, financial, and management related matters of the corporation when necessary.

    Specific Responsibilities
  • Specific roles and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following: 
  • Maintains regular meetings and updates with Sault College’s President and Administration.
  • Alongside with the Executive Director, administers disciplinary actions involving SCSU Executive and Chapters/Clubs members.
  • Ensures that appropriate files for historical purposes are kept up to date.
  • Reports regularly all SCSU updates and initiatives to the SCSU Board of Directors and acts as the Vice-Chair when required.
  • Acts as the Chair in all Executive meetings working alongside the Executive members to ensure the board directions are being carried out.
  • Implements and adheres to any decisions made by the SCSU Board of Directors.
  • Official signing authority for SCSU when required.
  • Official liaison between SCSU and Sault College BOG, other student governments, student affiliations, all levels of government, and other entities as necessary.
  • Ensures that the SCSU By-Laws and Policy Manual are adhered to and maintains legal responsibilities to the corporation.
  • Represents SCSU at all required Committees.
  • Participates in the hiring process of SCSU employees as required,
  • Prepares and presents an annual report at the Annual General Meeting,
  • Prepares a Transition binder (documentation) for their successor ensuring smooth transition.
  • Meets and guides Sault College students through any academic and non-academic related issues.
  • Maintains contact with other post-secondary institutions, businesses, and other external organizations in conjunction with the Vice President Campus Connections.
  • Remove themselves from any setting when a conflict of interest arises and delegates their duties to an Executive member.

    QUALIFICATIONS  
  • The successful candidate will have the ability to use their leadership skills while demonstrating their ability to work both independently and as part of a team-based environment to achieve the goals and objectives of the organization.
  • A current Sault College full-time student (at time of nomination) with a minimum 2.5 GPA in the Fall semester and expected to graduate in April.
  • Or the Current President in their first term
  • The Candidate must be at least 18 years of age, must not be an undischarged bankrupt, must be mentally competent, and must not have been convicted of any offenses listed under the Canadian Criminal Code.

Sault College Students’ Union - Position Description
Indigenous Students’ Union President
 
 The role of the Indigenous Students’ Union President is to be the Chief Executive Officer of the Indigenous Students’ Union.
 
The duties of the Indigenous Students’ Union President are, but are not limited to the following:
 
  • To be the official representative of the Indigenous Students’ Union,
  • To be responsible for the implementation of fall-semester orientation activities for the Indigenous Students’ Union,
  • To represent the Indigenous Students’ Union  on College Committees requiring such representation,
  • To chair all meetings of the Indigenous Students’ Union, unless just cause is given to the contrary,
  • To represent the concerns of the Indigenous Student Body to the Board,
  • To act as a liaison between the Indigenous Students’ Union  and the Indigenous Student Body of Sault College, and to be responsible for the representation given to each body,
  • To assist with the administration of the organization’s budget,
  • To attend all meeting of the Board with the understanding that two consecutively missed meetings without Board approval may be grounds for termination,
  • To prepare an annual report for their successor, ensuring a smooth transition for succeeding ISU Presidents,
  • To assist any Board member when required,
  • To maintain a minimum of ten (10) posted office hours per week within the academic year, posted hours will identify either the Student Life Centre or the Indigenous Student Centre, and
  • To meet with all those wishing information or having concerns regarding the Indigenous Students’ Union decisions or activities.

The role of the Vice-President Student Life is coordinate SCSU programming services and plans alongside with SCSU staff.
 
Specific Responsibilities
Specific roles and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following: 
  • Assists the SCSU President in the regular execution of duties.
  • Works in conjunction with the SCSU Program Manager to develop and maintain a schedule of events and activities, including Frosh and Frost activities, in congruent with the Board’s Programming Plan and ensures its implementation.
  • Alongside SCSU Program Manager plans and manages the technical and logistical support services as well as maintains appropriate volunteers’ level to ensure seamless execution of all events.
  • Liaises on behalf of SCSU with Sault College Programming Committee as well as with Sault College staff, administration, students, and members of the public.
  • Assists the Programming Committee in the planning of events throughout the year.
  • Encourages and promotes students’ involvement in campus recreation, SCSU programs, events, and initiatives.
  • Attends all Residence Council meetings when a council is active.
  • Provides feedback and recommendations for the organization’s budget to the SCSU President.
  • Works in conjunction with the SCSU BoD and the Student Chapters and Clubs members to develop and implement a plan to maintain and increase student spirit and involvement.
  • Works with the Vice President Campus Connections to ensure the effective promotion of all SCSU activities.
  • Attends all Executive meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Reports all activities and programs undertaken on behalf of SCSU at all regular executive meetings.
  • Ensures that the SCSU By-Laws and Policy Manual are adhered to.
  • Prepares and presents an annual report at the Annual General Meeting.
  • Prepares a Transition binder (documentation) for their successor ensuring smooth transition.
QUALIFICATIONS  
Qualifications include:
  • SCSU member (Current Full-Time student at Sault College) with a minimum of 2.5 GPA as confirmed by Sault College Registrar Office.
  • The Vice President, Student Life must be at least eighteen (18) years of age, must not be an undischarged bankrupt, must be mentally competent, and must not have been convicted of any offenses listed under the Canadian Criminal Code
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Exemplar attention to detail and accuracy, time management, ability to direct and supervise

Specific Responsibilities
Specific roles and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following: 
  • Assists the SCSU President in the regular execution of duties.
  • Maintains public awareness of SCSU initiatives and services by planning and directing internal information programs.
  • Maintains rapport and communication with the Sault College’s Communication Department.
  • Develops and curates engaging content for the SCSU’s social media platforms and assist with updating SCSU’s website.
  • Promotes and enhances SCSU services.
  • In consultation with the SCSU President, prepares internal and external communications.
  • Maintains community relations and updates agencies information.
  • Provides feedback and recommendations for the organization’s budget to the SCSU President.
  • Assists students with the creation of Chapters and Clubs and facilitates their elections when required.
  • Heads SCSU Campaigns and Awareness Weeks.
  • Works with SCSU and Odeno Student Pub staff to develop advertising plans for special events and programs.
  • Attends all Executive meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Ensures that the SCSU By-Laws and Policy Manual are adhered to.
  • Prepares and presents an annual report at the Annual General Meeting.
  • Prepares a Transition binder (documentation) for their successor ensuring smooth transition.
QUALIFICATIONS

SCSU BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The affairs of the Corporation shall be managed by a Board of seven (7) elected
directors at large from the general membership of SCSU

4.2 Elected Directors
Elected directors, subject to the provisions of section 4.03 shall be elected in the
manner set out in Article 6.00, each of whom, subject to the provisions or the
Letters Patent shall hold office for a term of one year commencing May 1st of the
year elected, ending April 30th of the following year.

4.3 Qualifications
Each director shall:
I. be 18 or more years of age
II. be a member of the Corporation
III. not be an undischarged bankrupt nor a mentally incompetent person;

IV. maintain a 2.5 Grade Point Average as a Full time student in the semester
prior to and after the election.

If a person ceases to be a member of the Corporation or becomes bankrupt or a
mentally Incompetent person, or their GPA falls below 2.5 they thereupon ceases
to be a director.


Board of Directors Remuneration Policy

This policy indicates the guidelines for payment of honoraria to the SCSU Board of Directors. Deductions to the honoraria are subject to the Deductions Policy and the Honoraria Sub-Committee.
1. For the months of September, October, November, February, March and April, honoraria month maximum amount is as follows:
a. $200.00/month
b. 8 hours – office
c. 4 Hours – events
d. attend at BOD meetings
2. For the months of December and January, honoraria monthly maximum amount is as follows:
a. $200.00/month
b. 4 hours – office
c. 2 Hours – events
d. attend at BOD meetings
3. For the months of May, June, July and August, honoraria monthly maximum amount is as follows:
a. $50.00
b. attend board meeting(s) either in person or via teleconference
 
Deduction Policy
The following deductions to the honoraria may be applied per offence at the discretion of the Honoraria Sub-Committee. If a Board of Director is absent without notifying the appropriate Professional Staff, the Board of Director will not be considered for remuneration absence.
1. $16.00 per office hour missed
2. $25.00 per board meeting missed
3. $50.00 for summer meetings not attended either in person or by teleconference
4. Half of one month honorarium per mandatory board development event such as Orientation Day, Transition Day, Conferences.

The Indigenous Student Union (ISU) works with the Indigenous Studies Department and the Sault College Students’ Union (SCSU) to enhance student life on campus by promoting awareness of Indigenous/Metis/Inuit peoples and enhancing a healthy holistic lifestyle taking care of the physical, spiritual, mental and emotional aspects of each and every one of us. The ISU’s primary focus is to develop strong partnerships with other groups within Sault College and our communities.
